Clausthal students draw positive conclusions after two-week summer school at Beihang University in Beijing
A total of 12 Master's and Bachelor's students from TU Clausthal successfully took part in the Summer School at Beihang University (BUAA) in August.
The programme, which has been running since last year and is organized by the university's China Competence Centre, offers participants the opportunity to get to know Chinese culture and lifestyle better. The focus is on professional and cultural exchange with Chinese students. After an eventful two-week stay in the capital of the People's Republic, the participants describe their experiences.
Petroleum Engineering student Karolin Scholl describes the trip as "a really great experience for us German students". The "Chinese food culture was not neglected. In general, we found the very digestible, light and varied Chinese cuisine to be very tasty". Her fellow student Jan-Hendrik Rieso, an industrial engineering student, can only recommend the summer school. For him, the exchange "was characterized by good supervision, an appealing cultural and leisure program, many impressions of local food and Chinese behavior."
Christof Eberle, also an industrial engineering student, also returns to Germany with positive impressions. "Beijing offers many sights such as the Forbidden City, the Heavenly Palace, the square at the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the Summer Palace, Houhai Park or the hutongs built in the traditional architectural style." In addition to these activities, there was also a visit to the Great Wall of China, a trip on a high-speed train to Tianjin, visits to university laboratories, the Olympic Stadium and a visit to the Aviation Museum at Beihang University.
Christian Lüddeke, also a petroleum engineering student, was impressed not only by the openness of the Chinese but also by their patience. "Whenever there were difficulties with communication or people asked for directions, they were always very friendly and tried to help," says the student. Mechanical engineering student Maren Liesbeth Hedwig Kaufman praises the Chinese students, who "went to great lengths to support them".
Clausthal students attended the Beihang University Summer School for the second time, with a focus on aerospace. The TU's China Competence Centre headed by Professor Michael Z. Hou had selected the participants through application procedures and interviews and helped with visa procedures, flight bookings and organization by Managing Director Can Zhang. The costs for the international flight costs and visa fees were covered.
