Delegation from the Science and Technology Department of the Chinese Embassy in Berlin visited TU Clausthal
On June 24, 2022, a delegation from the Science and Technology Department of the Chinese Embassy in Berlin, including Envoy Counsellor CHEN Linhao and Counsellor SUN Guowang, visited Clausthal University of Technology. They were received by the President, Prof. Dr. Joachim Schachtner, Prof. Dr. Alfons Esderts, Vice President for Research, Transfer and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Michael Zhengmeng Hou, Head of the China Competence Center and Prof. Dr. Eicke Hübner from Fraunhofer HHI.
After arriving at the Lower Saxony Energy Research Center in Goslar in the morning, the delegation visited the historic old town of Goslar, the TU Clausthal Battery Center and the Fraunhofer HHI. They were accompanied by Prof. Hou and Prof. Hübner. Following the presentation of the China Competence Center, Prof. Hou took the opportunity to invite the Chinese envoy CHEN to give a lecture on German-Chinese science and technology cooperation and funding mechanisms as part of the 5th China Week 2022. In this context, the delegation also expressed its thanks to the team at the China Competence Center: The work was particularly valuable for Sino-German cooperation, especially in the fields of culture, science and technology. For this reason, Mr. CHEN gladly accepted the invitation and is looking forward to another visit to TU Clausthal during this year's China Week.
The delegation used the afternoon for another "come-together" with Prof. Schachtner, Prof. Esderts and Prof. Hou in Clausthal. The envoys thanked Prof. Schachtner for his hospitality and in return conveyed greetings and wishes from their former supervisor, WAN Gang, to his alma mater. Prof. Schachtner emphasized once again that China has always been one of Clausthal University of Technology's most important cooperation partners and that Clausthal University of Technology has maintained and continues to maintain intensive cooperation with its Chinese partner universities in research and teaching, even during the pandemic. In the future, according to Mr. CHEN, the priorities of Sino-German cooperation must focus on the science and technology policies announced by the Chinese and German governments in order to further promote cooperation between Chinese and German universities. He is looking forward to a more practical cooperation with TU Clausthal, which - after the pandemic-related restrictions - would of course also include an exchange of researchers and joint research projects.
The visit ended with a tour of TU Clausthal's Aula Academica and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, where Professor WAN Gang, Chairman of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology and the best-known Chinese graduate of TU Clausthal, studied and worked.
