Delegation from Anhui University visits TU Clausthal

Prof. Dr. CAI Jingmin, President of the Senate, Prof. Dr. SUN Jianan, official representative of Anhui University in Lower Saxony, and five other representatives of Anhui University were the first university delegation from Anhui Province to visit Clausthal University of Technology on April 25. After a short tour through the old town of Goslar, the delegation was welcomed at the Energy Campus Goslar by Prof. Thomas Hanschke, Lower Saxony State Representative for University Cooperation between Lower Saxony and China, and Prof. Michael Zhengmeng Hou, China Representative and Head of the China Competence Center at Clausthal University of Technology.

Prof. Hanschke was particularly keen to emphasize once again that friendly relations as well as economic and scientific relations will continue to exist consistently and successfully at the action level. For this reason, he cordially invited Prof. CAI and Anhui University to participate in the Sino-Lower Saxony Alliance for Science and Culture and to develop it further. Prof. CAI gladly accepted this invitation and was pleased to be able to further deepen the cooperation between Clausthal University of Technology and Anhui University. Prof. CAI also expressed his desire for even closer cooperation at the subsequent reception at Clausthal University of Technology hosted by the President, Prof. Heike Schenk-Mathes. Although Clausthal University of Technology is comparatively small with around 3,200 students - compared to Anhui University with a good 40,000 students - it is still very well known in China, said Prof. CAI. Furthermore, the research profile outlined by Prof. Schenk-Mathes in a presentation and the existing international network of Clausthal University of Technology would offer good starting conditions for cooperation. In this regard, it was agreed to have the Clausthal University of Technology's China Competence Center work out possibilities for cooperation. This was followed by the obligatory exchange of small gifts before the delegation traveled on to France after a joint lunch - with a short visit to the University of Göttingen.

Anhui Province is located in the south-east of China and has a population of around 61 million. Anhui University was founded in 1928 and is located in the provincial capital of Hefei. It is one of the double first class universities and was a 211 university. The four campuses and a science and technology park are spread over 215 hectares. Lower Saxony was the first federal state to seek cooperation with the province at a very early stage. With success - next year, the partnership can look back on 40 years of successful cooperation.
