Cooking evening of the China Competence Center

On 3 May 2023, the team from TU Clausthal's China Competence Center organized a cooking evening for all TUC members and external guests. As the dishes were not known in advance, it took a bit of courage to sign up, says Dr. Hong Liu-Kiel. In the end, traditional Chinese dishes were cooked, which can be combined well with the (German) barbecue season.

The choice fell, for example, on a spicy cucumber salad (Pāihuángguā - 拍黄瓜) and Chinese noodles with various side dishes (Bàn Miàn - 拌面). Chicken in spicy sauce (Kǒushuǐjī - 口水鸡) and pancakes with spring onions (Cōng Yóu Bǐng - 葱油饼) were also on the menu.

With a total of 10 participants, all the dishes were first prepared together, with Ye Yue also explaining original Chinese preparation methods (e.g. "beating" the cucumber).

After a good 90 minutes of preparation, all the dishes were ready and - as is customary in China - they were eaten together with chopsticks. The intercultural exchange was not neglected, as students from Morocco, China and Ukraine were welcomed alongside German participants.

At the end of the event, Dr. Lara M. Gottfried thanked all participants for the wonderful evening and asked about their wishes for a follow-up event. "Next time I would like to eat soup," said one participant. We would be very happy to comply with this request. We are already looking forward to the next cooking evening!
