Sino-German Symposium Green Technologies
On November 6, Clausthal University of Technology's China Competence Center hosted the Sino-German Symposium Green Technologies. Representatives from the China University of Mining and Technology in Beijing (CUMTB), led by President Prof. Dr. Shirong Ge, were among those who attended, with a good 2,000 more interested people tuning in via the online broadcast.
After a brief welcome from the Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Christian Bohn and Prof. Dr. Shirong Ge, the results of current research projects were presented and discussed in a total of five presentations. The speakers included Clausthal professors Oliver Langefeld and Hans-Peter Beck with presentations on blue mining and a current project in the field of water storage and green energy in the Upper Harz Mountains. Prof. Dr. Michael Z. Hou, head of the China Competence Center and initiator of the event on underground storage of renewable energies, and Prof. Dr. Shengli Yang from CUMTB also spoke on green mining and its technology in China's coal mines. Dr. Wenjia Chen from the China Coal Technology & Engineering Group (CCTEG) Deutschland GmbH in Düsseldorf was also invited.
They came to the conclusion that it does not matter whether one speaks of blue mining, green mining or green technologies, as the aim of all strategies is to reduce CO² emissions. In this context, it is particularly important to promote joint research and the exchange of knowledge, as is possible at events such as this one, in order to ultimately create "a sustainable and environmentally friendly future", said Dr. Gottfried in her closing remarks.
