Scholarship program Bildungsbrücke MINT 2023

Are you studying a STEM subject or are you in an apprenticeship and interested in China? This scholarship program offers you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of China, your understanding of China and German-Chinese cooperation and thus build up and expand your China competence. Bildungsbrücke MINT is funded by Stiftung Mercator.

The program consists of intensive online preparation, a practical part with online and face-to-face elements in Germany and a follow-up meeting. Here is an overview of the individual sections:

Online preparation

  • June 03 and 04, 2023 Kick-off event in Essen
  • June 06 to 30 Online preparation, twice a week in the evening or at the weekend, approx. 24 hours in total
  • Topics: Chinese history, geography, economy and society, intercultural sensitization
  • Optional four-hour introduction to the Chinese language

Core program online and/or in presence in Germany

  • September 06 to 15, 2023 full day
  • Company and university visits, lectures, discussions and workshops, exchange with Chinese students, cultural and regional events

Follow-up in presence

  • October 14 and 15, 2023
  • Reflection and documentation of the program, outlook

The scholarship covers participation in the entire program as well as travel expenses, accommodation and entrance fees in connection with the events. As we are currently living with the uncertainty of how the pandemic will develop and which corona regulations will apply at the planned time of the event, we reserve the right to postpone the program or expand the scope of the online format if necessary. We will inform all applicants and scholarship holders of any changes in good time.

Application requirements:

  • You are currently studying a STEM subject (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD) or are in an apprenticeship in a STEM subject.
  • You are interested in China and are preparing for professional tasks in an international environment.
  • You are open and willing to gain new experiences.
  • You are performing very well in your studies or training.
  • You are willing and have the time to actively participate in all program components (preparation, study trip, follow-up) as part of your training/studies.
  • You are also willing to participate in this program if it is switched completely to an online format due to the pandemic.
  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You can communicate well in English.

Your application should include:

  • One-page letter of motivation stating why you are applying for a place in the
  • scholarship program and why we should select you.
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form (maximum 1 page)
  • Information on which phase/stage of your vocational training/studies you are currently in.
  • For trainees: Letter from the training company or school stating that a leave of absence is generally possible for the period and planned date of the study trip.
  • Certificates of achievement: Proof of successful training/studies to date, e.g. in the form of an interim certificate, final certificate, or similar.

Selection procedure:

Once we have received the applications, we will first carry out a pre-selection based on the application documents. In a second step, we will conduct online selection interviews lasting approximately 30 minutes in February. The selection committee consists of two representatives of Bildungsbrücke China-Deutschland e.V. and two representatives from the fields of STEM and Sino-German economic relations. After the selection committee has made its decision, we will inform all applicants of the results by March 1, 2023 at the latest.

The selection committee reserves the right to contact the applicant by phone or email if there are any questions. By submitting an application, you give your consent to this.

Please note: We receive a large number of applications. Please make sure that your documents are complete and meet the formal requirements . Unfortunately, we cannot consider incomplete applications.
