Boathouse party goes China
Once again this year, the TU Clausthal's annual boathouse party took place on May 25 at the Oker reservoir.
Clausthal-Zellerfeld : Once again this year, the TU Clausthal's annual boathouse festival took place on May 25 at the Oker reservoir. To celebrate the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, the motto was "Bootshausfest goes China - Dragon Boat Festival Clausthal-Style" in the boathouse of the Sports Institute. In addition to the Sports Institute and the Student Union, the China Competence Center was one of the co-organizers for the first time this year.
The traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th month in the traditional Chinese "lunar calendar". In 2019, the Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 7. A dragon boat regatta is held on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival. To mark the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, a celebration was held in the boathouse on May 25 under the motto "Bootshausfest goes China - Dragon Boat Festival Clausthal-Style". In addition to the Sports Institute and the Student Union, the China Competence Center was one of the co-organizers for the first time this year.
With grilled meat, cold drinks, coffee and cake, visitors enjoyed the beautiful view of the Okerstausee and the convivial get-together. The China Competence Center also offered hot and cold Chinese tea and the Chinese specialty "Zongzi". For entertainment, the Sports Institute provided various boats such as canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, a sailing boat, a pedal boat and several stand-up paddle boards, which could be borrowed free of charge. Many visitors took up the offer to paddle around the Oker reservoir. However, not everyone stayed dry; some boats capsized, much to the amusement of the spectators. For safety reasons, a DLRG lifeboat monitored the trips.
The highlight was the dragon boat race, which was co-organized by the China Competence Centre. The teams competed against each other in two canoes decorated with dragon heads. At the end, all participants received a certificate. At the stand of the China Competence Center, guests were then able to find out more about the China exchange programs and the general work of the Competence Center and talk to our employees about their experiences abroad.
In the end, despite the overcast and cool weather, the event was very popular with over one hundred visitors. Due to the positive feedback from the visitors, the China Competence Center will be co-organizing the Boathouse Festival again next year.
In addition to the Boathouse Festival, the China Competence Center also took part in the 30th Clausthal University of Technology campus run. Runners were offered refreshments during and after the run in the form of cold tea. Many runners also took part in this event despite the rain and fog. Next year, the China Competence Center will again support the runners at the 31st Campus Run.
